A celebration of life gathering will take place at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions in Karen's memory may be made to Centrica Care Navigators Hospice.

LYSTER, Karen L. Portage.

Age 73, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Karen was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 7, 1950, the daughter of the late Robert and Beverly (Carter) Lyster. She graduated from Loy Norrix High School, class of 1968. Karen attended Western Michigan University and earned a degree in Elementary Education and English. She worked as a substitute teacher for many years as well as at Curious Kids. Karen loved children and working with them. She also enjoyed camping, reading and spending time with family. She was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan and loved U of M football. Karen is survived by her only son, Nate (Sarah) Lyster; sisters, Christine Ryan and Robin (Dennis) Airhart; brother, Mike (Cheri) Lyster; several aunts, uncles and cousins and many beloved nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Mark Lyster; her grandparents; several aunts and uncles and one cousin.
