She was predeceased by: her parents, James Teachout and Wave Teachout (Stratton); and her son Joseph J. Van Bruggen III. She is survived by: her husband Joseph "Joe" Van Bruggen; her daughter Jane VanDerSlik; her grandchildren, Allen "Lee" VanDerSlik (April) and Shellee VanDerSlik; her great grandchildren, Adrian, Aeryn, Avery and Aerika VanDerSlik; and her sister Kay Longenecker. She is also survived by animals, especially her beloved cats.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Humane Society, c/o the funeral home.
