He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph S. Gates and Marie Gates (Swiss); his wife Janet Gates (Foust); his sons, Joe, Mike, Mark, David, Brian and Keith; his stepdaughter Tanya; his grandson Keith; and his sister Evelyn.
He is survived by: his son Steven Gates (Karen) of Fowler, IN; his stepchildren, Becky Darasko, Bob Standish, Robin Warren (Ken), Holland and Chris Standish (Peggy); his sisters, Joan of South Haven and Shirley of Melbourne, Florida.; and his pet Sunshine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
