He was predeceased by: his parents, Grover Cleveland Hilboldt and Grace Evelyn Hilboldt (Sonnemann); his siblings, Jane Gushue (Hilboldt) and Charles Hilboldt; and his wife Martha.
He is survived by: his former wife Ann Arbor; his children, James Jr. Hilboldt (Wendy) of New Canaan and Katherine; his grandchildren, Emily Andersen (Ryan), Amaron Gerken (Shannon), Molly Lewallyn (Mark), Jonathan Curtis (Marianne), Andrew Hilboldt (Kyla), Brian Farrell (Taylor), Renée "Kiki" Hilboldt and Tate Hilboldt; and his great grandchildren, Christian, Layla, James, Warren, Alesia, Lila, Patrick, Charles, Noah, Caden, Ethan, Isabelle, Graham and Rory. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
