Iris Leister Obituary
A funeral service to honor her life will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Thursday, October 17, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Portage South Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Oakwood Bible Church, c/o the funeral home.
Age 85, went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2024, with family at her side. She was born in Sunbury, PA, the youngest of seven children to the late Ira and Olive Thomas. Iris grew up in Pennsylvania and attended Sunbury High School where she would meet the love of her life Dane R. Leister. They were united in marriage on August 17, 1958 and have been together ever since. Together they moved to Southwest Michigan where Dane took a job as manager of the Sveden House restaurant and Iris worked hard to make a happy home. She had a strong faith and attended Oakwood Bible Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible every day. She looked forward to family gatherings, playing games with friends and did her best to be an involved grandmother. Iris was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who leaves behind wonderful memories to cherish; she will be missed by all who love her. Iris is survived by two children, Candice (Peter) DeHaan and Cynthia (Phil) Gryder; grandchildren, Laura (Christopher) Alexander, Daniel (Kelli) DeHaan, Philip Gryder; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Abigail Alexander, Colton, Kolby and Rhett DeHaan; extended family and friends.
