He was predeceased by: his parents, John Vlietstra and Jessie Vlietstra (Westerhof); his former wife Doris (Hoeksema); and his siblings, Donald, Betty Leep (Don), Glenn and Clarence (Joann).
He is survived by: his wife Mary Vlietstra (DeDoes); his children, Julie Geenen (Chuck), Marsha Tuinier (Roger), Jim Vlietstra, Shelly Bartman (Doug) and Carrie Mundy (Mike); his siblings, Janice VanDenBerg (Dennis), Paul Vlietstra (Phyllis), Ray Vlietstra (Linda) and Allen Vlietstra (Robin); and his sister-in-law Betty Vlietstra.
