He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Poortenga and Angie Poortenga (VanDyk); his wife Marilyn; and his brother J. Poortenga (Marilyn). He is survived by: his children, Julie Pylat (Loyd), Cheryl Hawkes (Dave) and Brian Poortenga (Shannon); his grandchildren, Justin Hawkes (Danielle), Chad Hawkes (Emily), Alex Pylat and Carly Pylat; his great grandchild Jack; his sister Carol VanderLugt (Gary); and his sister-in-law Pat Clough (Jerry). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
