He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Joan Melvin (Bode); his parents, Christine Melvin and Howard Melvin; his children, Greg Melvin and Diane Melvin of Plainwell; his daughter-in-law Lisa Melvin of Dexter; his grandchildren, Courtney, Katrina, Sam Melvin of Dexter, Christine Snarski (Zane) of Holland and Joshua Melvin (Noel); his great grandchild Valen of Plainwell; his sister Kay Wynne (John) of Lexington, SC; his nephew Patrick Casciolo (Valeriane); and his niece Michelle Casciolo of Berlin.

Continuing that theme, Gary has donated his body for research to the Western Michigan University School of Medicine. Memorials may be made to any of the following ministries: Martin United Methodist Church, Christian Neighbors of Plainwell, Westwood United Methodist Church or Ministry with Community.
