He was predeceased by: his parents, Ronald Tenwalde and Constance Tenwalde; his grandson Drake; and his brother Scott II Tenwalde (Laura). He is survived by: his wife Robin; his children, Crystal Smith (Robert), Jason Tenwalde (Lynn), Justin Tenwalde, Rachel Ortega (Brian), Kari Pinnell (Neil Gavan), Alan II Pinnell (Jenna) and Matthew Pinnell (Aricka); his siblings, Rhonda Tenwalde, Sandra Stamper (Larry) and David Tenwalde (Carol); his father-in-law Ed Crandall (Lynda); and his siblings-in-law, Dawn Taylor (Dave), Teresa Crandall (Mike), Mark Crandall (Wendy) and David Crandall.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Allegan Fire Department.
