David L. Markus Obituary
The Lord willing, visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Providence Christian School, 100 Pratt Rd. Kalamazoo, MI 49001. The family will also receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Kalamazoo Reformed Church, 5300 Comstock Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49048. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Joel Beeke, officiating. David will be laid to rest at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Christian School, c/o the funeral home.
Age 84, of Texas Township, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025. David was born in Sheboygan, WI, on June 30, 1940, the son of Cornelius John and Cora (Kaat) Markus. On June 14, 1963, he married Jacqueline (Beeke) Markus who preceded him in death in 2024. Together they made their home in Kalamazoo where he made his living in construction. He also loved farming and found beauty and joy in God's fields. Since the foundation of his life was in the Lord, he was known by all to be a kind, gracious, humble, and giving person. He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation and a strong supporter of Providence Christian School where Jacqueline worked for many years. He had a selfless, servant's heart and was always helping those around him. He was an ever-present caregiver to his mother, mother-in-law and wife in their later years. David was a man who loved his family, and he was especially close to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His warm smile and welcoming handshake will forever be missed by his family and friends. David is survived by five children, Rebecca Markus, Lisa (Bradley) Bishop, Cindy (David) den Hollander, Daniel (Betty) Markus, Kathryn (David) Rose; twenty-nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy (Gerrit) Van Ingen; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William Markus, a sister Mary Markus, and granddaughter Ann Markus.
