He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Wheaton and Helen Wheaton (Hague); his son Howard Lee Wheaton; and his siblings, Martha Myers and Marion Wheaton.

He is survived by: his wife Lucy Wheaton; his children, Norma (Ron), Cindy Blossom of Hillsdale, Russell Wheaton of Angola, IN and Joan Morgan of Jerome; and his siblings, James "Jess" Wheaton of Rollin, Nelson Wheaton of Gaylord, Doris Hawes of Jackson and Geri Heeman of Tecumseh. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends.
