He was predeceased by: his wife Geraldine "Jerry". He is survived by: his children, Russell Jr. (Mary Povenz), Cathleen (John Mulder), Kevin (Karagay Povenz), Joseph (Cari Povenz) and Steven (Michele Povenz); and his brother-in-law John Heuser. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.
