He was predeceased by: his parents, Harley Matthews and Lucille Matthews (Fuller); his sisters, Mary Lou and Margaret; his siblings-in-law, Tom and Doris; and his great grandchild Theo.
He is survived by: his wife Noreen Shumate of Port Huron; his children, Lori Fair (Roger), Mark Matthews (Monica), Joni Soflin (Michael) and Tami Matthews; his grandchildren, Megan Fair (Jared), Riley Fair (Shelby), Heather Fair, Joshua Matthews (Marissa), Timothy Matthews, Nicholas Matthews (Brooklynn), Elizabeth Soflin (Matt), David Soflin (Whitney), Katie Allen (Chris), Emma Robles (Luis), Jennifer Lopez-Suess (Paul), Eugene Ludington (Breanne), Heather Ludington (D'Andre) and Rebecca Whiting (Kurtis); and his siblings, Howard Matthews, Gerald Matthews (Mary) and Nancy Lindsay. He is also survived by 28 great- grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Lexington United Methodist Church (5597 Main St, Lexington, MI 48450). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hunter Hospitality House of Port Huron or the Pollina Avenue Holiness Church of Fort Gratiot.
