He was predeceased by : his wife Barbara Jane; and his parents, Cornelius Grit and Frances Grit. He is survived by : his children, Michelle Jane, Jonathan Scott (Renae) and Jamie Kay Alderink (Rod); his grandchildren, Rachel Renae Grit, Julia Jenae Grit, Elijah True Grit, Allison Jamie Kruis (Tyler) and Mattie Leigh Alderink; his great grandchildren, Colson Stephen Lowisz and Lucy Jane Kruis; and his siblings, Bill Grit (Joan), Nelson Grit (Betty) and Carlene Hoeksema (Gary).

Memorial contribution options to consider include Celeryville Christian School, Spectrum Health Hospice, and Covenant Christian Reformed Church. One other option, in place of memorial contributions, is to commit to taking a younger person to lunch and teach them something valuable, and tell them Jim Grit sent you.
