He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton B. and Anna F. Smolka (Mikus). He is survived by: his wife Joan of Ithaca; his children, John J. Smolka (Sue) of Ithaca, Theresa McKenzie (Scott) of Dorr, Thomas Smolka (Brenda) of Vestaburg, Gerald Smolka (Lisa) of Woodland and Mary Smolka of Kalamazoo; his grandchildren, Jeremy Smolka, Stephanie Smolka-Hodges (Jacob), Lauren VanSickle (Spencer), Rebecca McKenzie, Michael McKenzie, Travis Smolka, Jacob Smolka, Lacey Smolka and Melody Smolka; his great grandchildren, Samantha Smolka, Jacob Hodges and Ryker Smolka; and his child Burnet Ave. He is also survived by his father took up farming and after 1 year of high school John dropped out of school to help his father.
