He was predeceased by: his parents, Axel Benson and Isabel Benson (LeDoux); his wife Leona Gurchinoff; and his siblings, Jerry Benson, Betty Goriesky (James) and Dorothy Kalata (Robert).
He is survived by: his sons, Robert Benson (Laurie) of Iron River, MI, Donald Benson (Cathy) of Iron River, MI and Jack Benson (Julie) of Iron River, MI; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Haley, Eric, Ryan, Brandon, Dylan, Jacob and Christian; his great grandchildren, Natalie, Grayson and Alexis; and his sister Bonnie Christensen of Terre Haute, IN. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
