He was predeceased by: his parents, Stephen Podgornik and Lois Podgornik; his son Eric; and his siblings-in-law, George, Gladys Partenan, Tom Cocking and Bob Partenan.
He is survived by: his wife Faye Partanen; his son Scott of Kingsford; his siblings, Steve Podgornik (Lori) of Norway and Sue Tinti (Larry) of Norway; his brother-in-law Larry Partanen (Barb) of Kingsford; and his aunts, Edna Dennis and Donna Legault. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made, at Joe's request, to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit "Loan Closet", 201 E. Breitung Ave., Kingsford, MI 49802.
