He was predeceased by: his wife Fay; and his children, Gregory (Mary), Timothy, Christopher and Deborah Hirdes (Loren).

He is survived by: his daughters, Nancy Swartz (Frank), Amy Dykema, Lisa Hicks (Jamison) and Candace Smedley (Christopher); and his extended family Marinus De Bruine.
