He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Ries and Mary Leona Ries (Hill); and his siblings, Norman, Leland, Dale, Robert, Gayle, Duane, Ronald Dean, Chad, Virginia Cleghorn and Mary Della Clark.
He is survived by: his children, Darwin Ries (Brenda) of Tecumseh, Robin Hephner (Mark), Brad Ries and Nathan Ries; the mother of his children Joy Ries of Hudson; his grandchildren, Brittany Hephner (Steve Henderson) of Chicago and Brandon Hephner of East Lansing; and his sisters, Alice Jean Brown of Jasper, Marjorie Forry (Jack) of Phoenix, Deanna Marine of Phoenix and Dynetta Luck (Norm) of Jasper. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
