He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Carpenter and Loretta Carpenter (Decker); his stepmother Cornelia Fowler-Carpenter-Taylor; and his brother-in-law Lurly Roan. He is survived by: his sisters, Janet Roper (David) of Cleveland, Chris Pratt (Skip) of Bryan, Bonnie Roan of Adrian and Lois Cooper (Gary) of Sebring, FL; and his stepbrothers, Richard Fowler (Denise) of Addison, Melvin Fowler (Debbie) of Napoleon and Gary Fowler of Napoleon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
