He was predeceased by: his parents, Aloysius Cashen and Dorothy Cashen (Tilmann); his children, Mark Schmitt Jr. and Julie Schmitt-Thoma; his siblings, Patrick Cashen (Mary) and Susanne Schafer (Gerald); and his brother-in-law Frank Faber.
He is survived by: his wife Katherine Cashen; his children, Michelle Cashen (Tom Gallagher), Michael Cashen (Mary), Kevin Cashen (Karen) and Scott Schmitt (Lisa); and his siblings, William Cashen (Carol), James Cashen (Michelle) and Shirley Faber. He is also survived by many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
