He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth Gorton (Maguire) and Howard Gorton of Milford; his brother Art Gorton of Texas; and his son Mickey Gorton of Anaheim, California.. He is survived by: his former wife Barbara Ann Reed; his wife Bobbie; his children, Patricia, Chris McDaniels of Grand Rapids, Terry Gorton of Traverse City, Peggy (Allan Armstrong), Paul (Donna Gorton), Joe (Colette Gorton), Kelly Gorton (Laurie Poppen), Casey Gorton of Kent City, Tim Gorton of Kent City, Beth (Tim Marsman), Mark (Connie Gorton), Mary (Tom Love) and Matt Gorton of Grand Rapids, Michigan.; and his sisters-in-law, Kathleen Miller of West Branch, Pat (Dick Tway) and Carol (Walter Reed). He is also survived by 50 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and his 2 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews.
