He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur McGarvey and Irene McGarvey; and his parents-in-law, Edward and Marie VanderVeen. He is survived by: his wife Doris; his sons, Michael McGarvey (Cheri) and Douglas McGarvey (Diana); his grandchildren, Krystle Lastovich (Dan), Nikole Spoelman (Michael), Shawnda Starr (Andy), Carissa Spencer (Benjamin), David M. McGarvey, Shelbie McGarvey (Dave Hewitt) and Tori McGarvey (James Grant); his brother Edward McGarvey (Shirley); and also, Mary Breuker (Ron), Carol Breuker (Ken) and Ruth Bentley (late Denny). He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren.

Due to the pandemic and restrictions in place, a customary memorial service will not be held. 04/16/1940.
