He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Seppala and Mayme Seppala (Hendrickson); his former wife Frances Glover; and his siblings, Janet Amato, Shirley Markstrom and Bill Seppala.
He is survived by: his wife Kay Martin (Marttinen) of Ontonagon; his brother David Seppala (Mary Jo); his children, Jan Seppala (Judy), Amy Kuhns (Tom), Jody Seppala (Ann Marie Hansen), Ben Seppala (Jennifer) and Emily Kastamo (John); and his grandchildren, Julia, Brian Kuhns, Rachel, Carolyn Seppala, Anna, Grant, Lilias, Soren and Dane Kastamo.
Hal enjoyed his work in Research and Development at 3M, where he was named in multiple patents – his proudest achievement being on the patent for the Cool Flow Respirator, the valved face mask.
