He is survived by: his children, Daniel Hess and Nancy Spoden; his siblings, Dennis Hess of Traverse City, Carol Sue Hess-Castile (Dennis) of Gaylord, Diane Doherty of Traverse City, Bean Augsburger (Vaughn) of Roscommon, Tari Stern of Houghton Lake and Lori Sikkema (David) of Lake Ann; his sister-in-law Bernie Hess of Houghton Lake; his nieces and nephews, Ben, Joe, Annie Hess of Traverse City, Steve Hess of Chicago, Rodney Eggleston of Houghton Lake, Josh Doherty of Sault Ste, Marie and Sarah Lautner of New York City; and also Tom Branam.
