He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry and Helene McDermott, Sr. (Sebelle); his stepmother Anna Lisa; his son Thomas McDermott; his stepdaughter Teri Vertin; and his sisters, Helene McDermott and Lillian McDermott-Brady.
He is survived by: his wife Laurel Lee Paine; his children, John H. McDermott, III, Joseph McDermott, Timothy McDermott and Sherri McDermott-Gillette; his stepdaughters, Renee Vertin, Melissa Belcher-Glinke, Paula Belcher and Michelle Belcher-Reyes; and his half-siblings, Edward McDermott and Marylisa McDermott. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
