He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Emanuel Schafer and Erma Schafer; his wife Geraldine Blackwood; his sister Julia Boylan (Harold); his children, Jerry Foote, Newlin Schafer (Emily), Elyshia Hoekstra (Nate), Kandi Rosales (Marco), Emanuel Schafer (Colette) and Jade Schafer; and his grandchildren, Judah, Hank, Boaz, Cora, Lea, Lily, Isabell, Amelia, Ben, Lincoln and Evelyn. He was also cherished by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
On January 11, 2022, the Lord brought David Schafer home to his side after a longtime struggle with Parkinson's Disease.
