He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Smith and Leatta Smith; his grandson Troy Daniel Smith; and his brother Glen Smith. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Smith (Pat); his children, James Douglas Smith (Barb) and Mary Ely-Smith (Aaron); his stepchildren, Joy Fredrick (Robert), Ann Schonken and Fred Westerh (Tina); his grandchildren, Jamie Petty, Shelby Westerh, Alex Westerh, Michael Puckett (Mary), Heather Wiechman (Jake), Christopher Smith (Taylor), Jakob Ely, Avary Ely, Elijah Daniel Smith and Brady Ely; and his great grandchildren, Serah, Austin Puckett, Philip, Averieanna Wiechman, Samantha, Riley Mackey, Malakai, Nikolai Petty, Blair Avery Decker and Oliver David Smith.
In lieu of flowers family is asking for donations to be made to Veterans Affairs or The American Cancer Society.
