He was predeceased by: his parents, William J. Atkinson and Marion Atkinson; his parents-in-law, Henry and Ann Driesenga; and his brothers-in-law, Harve and Larry Driesenga.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Atkinson (family: Curt, Sally Vruggink, Justin, Nikki Vruggink, Winston, Kacy Vruggink, Zayden, Robin, John Nicely, Julie, Dan Cech, David, Monica Cech, Quinn, Blake, Heather, Emir Ayala Romero, Cameron Cech, Beth, Owen Smith); his sister Karol (David Ohman); and his siblings-in-law, Beatrice, Junior Vereeke, Nellie Driesenga, Roger, Barb Driesenga, Ron, Marilynn Driesenga and Mary Lou Driesenga. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
