He was predeceased by: his parents, Murvel Houting and Susanna Houting; his wife Leona; and his siblings, Doris Schaftenaar and Keith Houting.
He is survived by: his children, Mary (Jacob Kim), Tom (Lynette Houting), Tim Houting, Dan Houting (Lynda Fry), Jane (Mike Grennes) and John (Penny Houting); his sister Marlene Veele; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Houting. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made in Vern's name to Trinity Reformed Church.
