He was predeceased by: his wife Helen; and his son Jonathan. He is survived by: his daughters, Laurie Haveman, Christine (Stephen Roberts), Linda (Jeffrey LaFleur) and Sarah (Kevin Essenburg); his grandchildren, Gerrid, Kylie Mouw, Katelyn Breyfogle, Kyle Korthour, Jason Mouw, Matthew Roberts, Elizabeth, Rachel Hamstra-Roberts, Jonniah Haveman, Nickolas Haveman, Alexandria, Corey Schrotenboer, Nicholas, Taylor LaFleur, Andrea Essenburg, Lauren Essenburg and Izzy Essenburg; his great grandchildren, Norah, Blake, Jacob, Hattie, Ophelia, Leafa, Charlotte, Sawyer, Oliver and Payton; his sister Beatrice Rozeboom; and his sisters-in-law, Kathleen Kolk and Shirley Haveman-Nieboer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in Bernard's honor may be given to Holland Christian Schools.
