Bates and Jane Mae Bates (Lynch); his wife Phyllis McNeil; his sons, Douglas Bates (Penny) of Reading and Steven Bates of Hillsdale; his grandsons, Douglas "Lance" Bates Jr. (Michelle) of Roscommon, Shaun Bates (Ann Marie) of Mt. Pleasant and Justin Bates (Danielle) of Clark Lake; and his great grandchildren, Tristan, Brennan, Cooper, Ava, Lauren and Christian.
