He was predeceased by: his parents, Lee Kies and Erma Kies (Linsday); his wife Laurine Kies; and his siblings, Charles Kies, Betty Frantz, Marion, Milton Kies, Hugh Kies, Harold Kies and Joseph Kies.

He is survived by: his children, LaVonna Williams (Scott) of Osseo, Robert Lee Kies Jr. of Jerome and Janet Kies (James Foulke) of Hillsdale; and his sisters-in-law, Marilyn Kies of Moscow, Mary Parkhill of Somerset, Caroline Sheely (Lowell) of Moscow and Beth Bechler of Honor, Michigan.. He is also survived by five grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
