She was predeceased by: her parents, Ernst Wittgen and Josephine Wittgen (Roth). She is survived by: her husband Arlan Gilbert; her sister Wiete Liebner (Bernd); and her nieces, Stefanie and Kerstin. She is also survived by three great-nieces and three great-nephews, which were like grandchildren.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Greater Hillsdale Humane Society.
