He was predeceased by: his parents, James Sr. Craner and Darlene Craner (Strong); his father-in-law Robert Thomas; and his siblings-in-law, Karan Walker and Dave Thomas.

He is survived by: his wife Sherrilee; his children, Kate Craner, Kayleen Craner (Eric Rosema), Tom Mikulski (Sahar Mallet), Rachel Kirwin (Kyle) and Loren Mikulski; his siblings, Nancy Kendall (Brian), Jim Craner (Debra) and John Heykoop (Tracy); and his grandchildren, Gavin, Jaimison, Landin, Naydene, Kinsley, Lexi, Ivy, Bryce and Talulah. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
