I was terrified of her until I realized that she was thrilled when students excelled and responded to her relentless intellectual challenges. I give her much credit for my successful and hugely rewarding 35-year Foreign Service career, and especially cherish the memories of spending time with her in Thailand when she came to visit Pat during her Peace Corps service when I was on my first tour at the US Embassy”
