He was predeceased by: his brother Michael Higgins. He is survived by: his sons, William "John" Higgins (Michelle) and Mark Higgins; his grandson Nolan Higgins; and his brothers, Pat (Jeannie) and Terry Higgins (Judy).

Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Huron Museums to be used at their Huron Lightship and Fort Gratiot Lighthouse sites.
