With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Ray Kauppila of Hancock, Michigan, born in Iron Mountain, Michigan, who passed away on June 14, 2020 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Ida H. Kauppila (Kuja) and Swan W. Kauppila; and his brother Wallace S. Kauppila. He is survived by: his children, Susan Bovid (Gregory) of Midland, Audrey Johnson (William) of Milwaukee, WI, Kandace Reckinger (Tim) of Hartland, WI and Rick Kauppila (Pam) of Negaunee; his brothers, Rolland W. Kauppila (Linda) of Dayton, OH and Rodney W. Kauppila (Barbara) of Rudyard; his grandchildren, Adam Kauppila (Britta), Janel Kauppila, Christopher Bovid (Karen), Nicholas Bovid (Kristen), Stanley Bovid (Jami), Elena Davis, Jennifer Walter (Jonathan), Lauren Crowder (William) and Aaron Reckinger; and his wife Irene E. Kauppila (Besonen).
He came to Tech after working in industry for several years, bringing to the design curriculum an invaluable background, steeped in the realities of industrial design, yet firmly based on a foundation of mathematical and engineering science.
