He was predeceased by: his parents, Aarvo Hanka and Senia Hanka (Heikennen); and his wife Joann Hanka (Branstrom). He is survived by: his children, Mark Hanka (Jean) and Lori Viel (Tom); his siblings, Gordon Hanka, Shirley Hudson and Nina Geske; and his grandchildren, Katie, Emily, Julia (Jake), Matthew, Brandon and Talia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
