William H. Doot Obituary

William Doot, age 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 2, 2023.

He was born on June 22, 1928 in Grand Rapids, MI. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He graduated from Kelloggsville HS and enlisted in the United States Army; serving during WWII in Japan.

When Bill returned from the service, he attended Davenport College, graduating with a business degree. He had a very successful sales career in the automobile industry while making numerous lifelong friends along the way.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying hunting, gardening, swimming, bicycling, and numerous sports, especially golf, which he continued to play until he was 93. He enjoyed going to sporting events throughout his life and was an avid University of Michigan fan.

He loved spending time with family, going for walks to chat with friends and meet new people. Those who knew Bill well, joked he never met a cookie he didn't like. Some even suspected he may have donated over 32 gallons of blood for the cookies he'd get afterwards.

Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Diane, in November of 2011; son, Ben Doot (1984) and his wife, Gerry (1998); son-in-law Jim Greendyke (1985); parents, Benjamin and Anne (Hatton) Doot; sisters, Chick (Hank) Blacquiere and Shirley Koben; brother John (Arlene) Doot; father and mother-in-law Ken and Pearl Johnston; brothers-in-law Corky (Jan) Johnston, Joe Johnston, Jerry Tanis; and sister-in-law, Penny Jean Johnston.

Surviving are his children: William II (Judy) Doot, Barb Doot, Jacqueline (Mike) Hartmann, Robert Doot and wife Erin Schubert. Grandchildren: Erika, Bill III, Lauren (Dan) Dylla, Annie, Ben, Zack and Josh. Great-grandchild, Caleb. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gary Koben, Vonnie Tanis, Chris Johnston, Dennis (Donna) Johnston, Tom Johnston, Tim (Denise) Johnston, and many nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to Faith Hospice.
