Appel of Grandville, Michigan, born in Boonville, Indiana, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on September 12, 2024 at the age of 89. He was predeceased by: his parents, William Appel and Juanita Appel (Hemingway); his former wife Nina Appel (Alexander); his sister Connie Hayden; and his son Scott Appel.

He is survived by: his wife Cynthia "Cindy" Appel (Honderd); his daughter Ramona Appel Stone; his siblings, Brenda Stock and Keith Appel; his daughter-in-law Dana Appel; his stepsons, Rick VanderArk (Lori) and Dave VanderArk (Tammi); his grandson Christopher Stone Sr. (Karina); his stepchildren, Ashley Riddle (Tejay) and Renee Appel; and his great grandchildren, Christopher Stone Jr., Eliana Stone, Elijah Miller, Lana Miller, Aren Riddle and Isaac Riddle. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren & step great-grandchildren.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I am so sorry for your loss. I lived next door to Jim and Nina for 24 years. Jim shared many jokes & stories with me over the years. He was always ready to chitchat with you. Jim always shared with friends & neighbors. He would give me things from his garden every summer. He enjoyed giving my son, Andy, cucumbers that Andy would then eat whole, which amazed Jim. He watched my sons grow up and was always around when you needed a helping hand. God bless”
