He was predeceased by: his parents, Bea Smith and Edward Swanson; his stepmother Barb Swanson; his brother-in-law Jeff McClaran; and his niece Amber Niland.
He is survived by: his sons, Tim Swanson (Samantha), Dan Swanson (Russ), Patrick Swanson (Cortni) and David Collins; his grandchildren, Nataleigh, Drayton, Lucas and Lily; his sisters, Sue Helderop (Richard), Dee Abel (David) and Celina McClaran; and his stepbrothers, Mark Swanson (Lisa) and Mike Martinson (Kelly). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A reception was held on Saturday, November 23rd 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home – Van Strien Creston Chapel (1833 Plainfield Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505).
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to American Cancer Society.
