He was predeceased by: his wife Rita; his parents, Jerome Bolter and Frances Bolter; and his sisters, Jean Durkee and Phyllis Doornbos.

He is survived by: his sons, Ken (Sarah) and Russ (Nancy); his granddaughters, Stephi Roop (Justin) and Nikki Bolter; his sister Pat Siereveld; and his brothers-in-law, Richard Droski and Ed Droski. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations can be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
