He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Vasell and Cecile Vasell; his brothers, Lawerence and Raymond; his brothers-in-law, Richard, Steven and Raymond Kuzawa; and his niece Ann Boman.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, John (Kathy), Shawn (Erin), Christopher, Peter (Angel) and Michael (Kelly); his sister Pat Brady (Jim); his sisters-in-law, Mary Boman and Maureen Kuzawa; his grandchildren, Jack, Audrey, Benjamin, Will, Henry, Jacob, Adeline, Margaret, August, Patrick and Davis; and his close friend Pete Diaz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, and other friends he loved.

Visitation was held on Friday, January 10th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary (1935 Plymouth Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, January 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
