He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard McClain and Florence McClain; and his sister Jeanne O'Toole. He is survived by: his wife Christine Thunstrom McClain; his children, Carolyn Coye Cooke and David James McClain (Kelle); his grandchildren, Nathan, Trent, Jack (Piper), William and Evelyn; and his great grandchild Bethany.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Henry, in Jim's Honor, 5575 Gordon Road, Newaygo, MI 49337.
