He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, George Bethke and Margaret Bethke (Crouse); his wife Dorace Louise Bethke (Buttone); his siblings, Thomas Bethke of Grand Haven and Beverly Baggott (Glenn) of Grand Haven; and his sisters-in-law, Barbara Clary (Delvis) of Swartz Creek, Louise Bethke (George) of Edmond, Oklahoma and Dorothy Bethke (Douglas) of Grand Haven. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
