He was predeceased by: his parents, Elsworth Fayssoux Smith and Helen Reyburn Smith; his siblings, Sunie Cabanne Smith and James Sheppard Smith of St. Louis, Missouri.; and his son Kurt Zeppenfeld.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Smith (Nee Falkenhainer); his children, Chris Zeppenfeld (Lori), Julie Brown and Sara Kurtz (Jeff); his grandchildren, Kristopher, Katie, Kyle, Jamie and Courtney Zeppenfeld; his children, Cameron Brown, Mallory Schierbeek (Nick), Anna and Payton Kurtz; and his pets, Remy, Roo, Skully, Moose and Miso.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Church of the Cross, 110 Calhoun Street, Bluffton, South Carolina 29910.
