He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Aves and Thelma Aves (Dysinger); his wife Mary Ellen Aves (Claflin); his son-in-law Darwin Pettit; his daughter Janet Aves; his grandson William Pettit; and his siblings, Layton (Phyllis Aves), Otto (Virginia Aves) and LaVetta George Highlen (Aves).
He is survived by: his children, Susan Pettit (Pat Outman) of Bellevue, Diane Peake (Steve) of Grand Ledge and Burton Aves of Lansing; his grandchildren, Andrea Pettit, Renee Slocum (Jerry), Jennifer Wright (Todd), Stacy Lantrip (Chris Aqueros), Kelly Langin, Valerie Barrett and Emily Aves; his great grandchildren, Jared Knight (Destiny), Makell Thomas (Juliette), Olivia, Noah, Miles Langin, Steven Pickell and Elijah Pettit; and his great great grandchild Atreus Thomas.
