He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Opynen and Margaret Van Opynen (Thoman-Tallman); his wife Linda Aker; his brothers, Alan, Richard and Robert; and his grandson Schuyler Van Opynen.
He is survived by: his sons, Todd Van Opynen (Wendy Miller) and Jeffrey Van Opynen (Christine); and his grandchildren, Nichole, Joshua, Kayli and Matthew. He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
