He was predeceased by: his parents, Steven Kestner and Amelia Kestner (Marzene); his wife Janet Kangas; his daughter Susan Bourcier; his son-in-law Col. Marc Hohle; and his siblings, Robert, Paul, Jerry Kestner and Margaret Keating.

He is survived by: his children, Dr. Mark Kestner (Liz), Mary Mickalich (Albert), Col. David Kestner (Joanna), Doris Hohle-Heins (John), Helen Weykamp (Rob) and Ruth Groven (Chris); his son-in-law Roy Bourcier; his grandchildren, Jack Kestner (Ashley), Jane Kestner, Dr. Elizabeth Rose (Justin), Lynn Mickalich, Katie Adams (Nate), Caroline Kestner, Emily Hohle (Taylor), Andrew Hohle, Gabrielle Bourcier, Maxwell Bourcier, Aliina O'Toole (Reilly), Dr. Lydia Weykamp, Alex Weykamp, Reier Groven (Anna Maturski), Leah Groven and Ellie Groven; his great grandchildren, Elodie, Emeric and Esme Rose; his grandchildren, Isla, Aiden Kestner and Emmett O'Toole; and his siblings, Harold Kestner and Helen Glover. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
